This year's celebration of the Development Policy Research Month (DPRM) in September carries the theme, "Bouncing Back Together: Innovating Governance for the New Normal or Makabagong Pamamahala para sa Sama-samang Pagbangon sa New Normal".
Proclamation No. 247, issued by Malacañang in September 2002, declared the month of September of every year as Development Policy Research Month (DPRM). It highlights the critical role of policy research in the socioeconomic advancement of the Philippines.
The observance of the DPRM is intended to cultivate a strong culture of research and use of data and evidence among the country's national and local decisionmakers in policymaking and program planning. Through the different topics highlighted in every DPRM celebration, this event also aims to raise the public's literacy of important socioeconomic issues.
To kick off the 18th Development Policy Research Month in September, the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) will hold a virtual forum on September 1, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Manila time GMT+8). PIDS President Celia Reyes will open the event while members of the PIDS APPC 2020 Committee will present the Institute’s paper on “Innovating Governance: Building Resilience Against COVID-19 Pandemic and Other Risks”, which explains this year’s DPRM theme. Confirmed panelists are Assistant Secretary Carlos Abad Santos of the National Economic and Development Authority, Assistant Secretary Rolando Toledo of the Department of Budget and Management, Assistant Governor Iluminada Sicat of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and Mayor Mar-len Abigail Binay of Makati City. The forum will be streamed live on PIDS Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/PIDS.PH/).
The Annual Policy Policy Conference (APPC) is the highlight and culminating activity of the DPRM. Started in 2015, it convenes foreign and local experts, researchers, policymakers, and representatives from government, private sector, and civil society in an evidence-based discourse of current and emerging development issues. This year's APPC on "Innovating governance: Building resilience against COVID-19 and other risks" will be conducted virtually through a four-part webinar series on September 15, 17, 22, and 24, 9:00 am - 11:30 am (GMT+8).
This is an annual forum organized by PIDS and the Mindanao Development Authority, in partnership this year with Ateneo de Davao University. It will be held on September 18, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
The theme of this year’s Mindanao Policy Research Forum (MPRF) is “Bouncing Back in the New Normal through Countryside Development and Agricultural Resilience” to highlight the importance of innovating the agriculture sector in sustaining the country’s food production in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and boosting the sector’s resilience to natural hazards and other risks.
